Dr Maz Khan's experience in reproductive medicine includes positions with several of the finest units in the UK providing specialist knowledge of sub-fertility and recurrent miscarriage.

Dr Khan qualified and began his early training in Pakistan where he was awarded the FCPS (Fellowship of the College of Physicians & Surgeons) in 1993. Moving to the UK in 1999, he gained a breadth of experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at a number of district hospitals. In 2002 he was appointed a Clinical Fellow at St Mary's Hospital, London in fertility services. St Mary's is a tertiary referral centre for recurrent miscarriage and this role, followed by positions with Guy's and St Thomas Hospital and King's College Hospital, gave Dr Khan the opportunity to work with leading teams in reproductive endocrinology and to develop skills in gynaecology ultrasound scanning and early pregnancy complications.

He says: "If it wasn't for the selfless dedication of the pioneers of IVF we wouldn't be able to help so many patients today. I feel a genuine pride to be part of Bourn Hall and am delighted that I will be able to use all my skills and experience to provide a comprehensive service for our patients."

    Anne O'Leary
    Head of Embryology

Becoming the Head of Embryology at Bourn Hall Clinic at Colchester is a dream job for Anne O'Leary. The Embryologist has a degree from Anglia Ruskin University and gained her early training with Martyn Blayney at Bourn Hall Clinic, Cambridge. She left in 2003 to gain wider experience at Birmingham Women's Hospital and Care Northampton where she was promoted to Laboratory Manager, before rejoining Bourn Hall in 2011.

The Embryology teams at Cambridge and Colchester work closely together and share working practices so that staff can move easily between the two clinics. Anne's specialist interest is embryo culture, which is ensuring all the conditions for the developing embryo are as close to, or better than, nature would provide.

Anne says: "I am delighted to back with Bourn Hall, it is like coming home. We are working in one of the most highly regulated areas of medicine and it is great to be with such a caring and disciplined team of people.

Every aspect of treatment has an impact on the result, so we take care of all the tiny details, never forgetting that one embryo is all you need to make a baby."

    Sarah Pallett
    Clinic Manager

Sarah qualified as a Registered General Nurse in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. Her experience has included medical nursing, community nursing and gynaecology. In 1999 she moved to Brentwood Fertility Unit as a Nurse Co- ordinator, gaining a Diploma in Nursing Studies. Sarah joined the former Isis Fertility Centre team in the summer of 2001, initially to lead the nursing function but her talent was soon recognised and she was promoted to Unit Manager and then made a Director of the Company. Since the acquisition of Isis by Bourn Hall Clinic in November 2009, Sarah has carried out the pivotal role of Clinic Manager and still ensures she maintains her hands on clinical practice and patient contact on a daily basis. Sarah says "Although every journey is unique each couples' goal is the same, to have a child and build a family. To share in their journey and help them achieve this goal is what makes working in the field of fertility so special and so rewarding, no two days are the same."
