BOURN HALL UNWRAPS ITS COLCHESTER CLINIC

Record pregnancy rates are a great present for staff and patients

Bourn Hall celebrates the official opening of its Colchester clinic with the announcement of record pregnancy success rates. On Saturday 24th April, clinic staff, fertility consultants and patients will 'unwrap' the former Isis Fertility Centre, which has been rebranded and invigorated since its acquisition by Bourn Hall in November 2009

Mike Macnamee, Chief Executive for the Bourn Hall Group that includes both the Colchester and Cambridgeshire clinics, is delighted with the results.

Record pregnancy rates are a great present for staff and patients"Since the early days, when pioneers Steptoe and Edwards founded the world's first IVF clinic at Bourn Hall, it has been our goal to offer patients a better than 50 percent chance of success, which is far higher than that of natural conception. These results show we have moved closer to that target."

One reason for the achievement is thought to be the wider use of a technique called blastocyst culture – which is when embryo transfer is delayed for a few days - this has resulted in a 50.7 percent pregnancy rate at Bourn Hall for women under 37.

Mike says "This is fantastic when you consider that the best IVF had to offer back in the early 80s was a 10% chance of pregnancy. We've come a long way since those early pioneering days both in terms of our success rates and accessibility of fertility treatment."

Clare Lewis-Jones MBE, Chief Executive of Infertility Network UK said "The emotional and physical impact of infertility is often vastly underestimated. It is vital that patients have access to the best form of treatment offering them the best chances of success hopefully avoiding repeated cycles. Increases in success rates at IVF clinics gives huge hope to couples and I wish Bourn Hall Colchester continued success."

Dr Efstathios Diakos, newly appointed Lead Clinician at Bourn Hall Colchester comments,

"The results have been very encouraging with an increase in success rates across all our treatment areas. I am particularly pleased with the success rates of our blastocyst technique. Letting the embryos grow for longer allows the embryologist to have more information when deciding which embryo to return to the patient. The results for all patients have been excellent."

Bourn Hall Group now has two clinics in the East of England. The world's first IVF Clinic based in Bourn, Cambridgeshire and the new clinic in Colchester, Essex.

The Colchester clinic provides a full fertility service and is the first fully owned satellite clinic to be established by Bourn Hall.

Sarah Pallett, says, "We extend a warm Bourn Hall welcome to both private and NHS funded patients here in Colchester."
