Alexander McFarquhar (2007)
Holding baby Alexander in her arms, 35 year old Ally still can't quite believe that she is finally a mum.
"Having a baby has been a very long, emotional and difficult journey for me and my husband Alister," explains Ally.
"After trying unsuccessfully for a baby for six years, we were referred to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. The hospital found that Alister had a low sperm count and the only way we were able to have the chance of a family would be through IVF.
"After our fourth attempt at IVF we went to Bourn Hall and saw consultant, Mr Marikinti. We were both astonished when within five minutes of our consultation Mr Marikinti told us that he knew exactly what the problem was!
I was prescribed a daily injection of Heparin to stop my blood clotting for two weeks before the embryos were put into my womb. This time, we used a process called Blastocysts Transfer which is where the embryo is allowed to develop for 5-6 days after fertilisation.
"Amazingly, it worked and nine months later our gorgeous little boy, Alexander was born. To say we are both completely 'gooey' is an understatement. Alister is completely smitten! Words cannot express how we feel about becoming parents; it is just amazing. I don't think either of us will ever forget though the difficult journey we both had to take in order to get Alexander."
