Wedding Anniversary Gift
Thanks to the help and support of Isis Fertility Centre, Graham and Gemma from Ipswich are now proud parents of Milly, with a second baby on the way. However, it seemed the odds were stacked against them as Graham had undergone a vasectomy having had children from a previous relationship and Gemma was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome.
After plans to reverse Graham's vasectomy failed, they tried other treatments before embarking on IVF using Graham’s sperm which was retrieved through a surgical procedure.
Gemma said: "We didn't realise we would still be able to have Graham's children until they explained that even though Graham had had a vasectomy and a reversal hadn't worked, the sperm were still there."
On their third attempt at IVF, two embryos were transferred. They then had to wait two weeks to do a pregnancy test. Gemma said: "When it was positive the feeling was out of this world. All the ladies at the Isis clinic were crying. They are just brilliant. They are like friends really."
On August 19th 2007 all the heartache finally paid off when Graham and Gemma became the proud parents of baby Milly who was born by emergency caesarean at Ipswich Hospital. It was a double celebration as their baby girl, who weighed 7Ib 8oz, was born on their first wedding anniversary.
With frozen embryos left, the couple then headed back to Isis to try for their second baby who is due in July 2009.
Gemma added: "We had huge odds stacked against us, but we didn't give up and it has paid off. I would say to anyone else in our situation, just keep going."
