BEST RESULTS OFFER MORE BABY HOPE
"I wouldn't have missed this for anything," says David Myers, at the 'unwrapping' of the new Bourn Hall Colchester fertility clinic which is expanding its facilities to treat more patients from Suffolk and Essex.
The arrival of baby Olivia-Grace on the 7th December 2009 was the best Christmas present ever for delighted parents Faith and David Myers of Felixstowe.
The couple had years of disappointment before successful IVF treatment at the former Isis Fertility Centre. The clinic has been transformed following its acquisition by Bourn Hall in November 2009. The family joined patients and staff to celebrate the exciting developments at the clinic.
Faith (39) remembers the journey that brought them for treatment.
"David and I always knew we wanted a family, and after four years of trying we started to get worried. We had tried everything to increase our chances of success and nothing was happening."
The couple went to their GP for advice and were referred to the hospital for tests.
"There didn't seem to be a clinical reason I wasn't becoming pregnant and this added to the frustration, especially as I was now in my late 30s," Faith continues. "We tried some fertility drugs such as clomid and then were advised to try IVF.
"Unfortunately we didn't meet the criteria for treatment funded by the NHS so we decided to go as private patients to the former Isis Fertility Centre in Colchester."
The couple have nothing but praise for their treatment at the clinic.
"We went from strength-to-strength. The staff were supportive but very clear that treatment may not work first time and that we had to be prepared for this. They were clearly delighted when things happened more quickly than expected and my treatment plan had to be brought forward.
"The staff were brilliant. After years of nothing, it seemed to happen so quickly."
Bouncing her smiley baby, with her pink cheeks and twinkly eyes, Faith says "she is all that we wanted. After all those years this is everything that we had hoped for."
The couple were invited to come and show Olivia to the staff who were thrilled to meet her and see the results of their work.
Dr Efstathios Diakos, newly appointed Lead Clinician at Bourn Hall Colchester comments,
"Nothing compares to the joy that you feel to see a couple coming back to the clinic holding close a baby, they may have come to believe they would never have.
"We are particularly delighted that technologies are now available that give more people the chance of a baby of their own."
Bourn Hall has announced record pregnancy success rates this year. The results move the world’s first IVF clinic nearer to its founders’ dream of giving couples, who come for treatment, a better than 50/50 chance of a baby each time they try.
